"SS2 folks foster closer ties at gathering"

ABOUT 500 residents of SS2 attended a Christmas and New Year celebration organised by the Rukun Tetangga Club of SS2B (KRT SS2B) recently.

The dinner was organised for the residents to establish close rapport with their neighbours.

KRT SS2B Chairman Lee Kwee Cheng said: "It is good to see all residents getting together. An event like this is an opportunity for the residents to meet," she said.

During dinner, guests were also treated to performances and lucky draws.

One of the residents, Sheriha Abu Bakar, said the residents shared a good relationship.

"This dinner has given us a chance to meet each other and get to know each other better.

"Living in multiracial community, we have to learn live together," she said.

Also present were OCS of SEA Park police station Inspector Gunam Resul Gulam Mohamad, Petaling Jaya City councillor Tony Cheong and MBPJ senior assistant director (Environmental Health) Dr V. Chitradavi.

PERAYAAN CHRISTMAS DAN TAHUN BARU

Another year draws to a close and 2012 is just around the corner. To end the year with a ‘bang’, our RT SS2B will be organizing a ‘Malam Mesra Perpaduan – Perayaan Christmas dan Tahun Baru on Friday 23 Dec 2011.

The gathering this year will be held at SS2/34 padang and for a change, we will be doing a ‘sit down’ dinner. We plan for a 9-course Chinese dinner with table seating on the basketball court. For our muslim residents, there will be special halal tables set up.

The tentative program for the day will include, among others, ‘Line dancing, Christmas caroling, a fancy dress competition, fancy hat contest, table games, children games, lucky draws, karaoke and photo sessions with santa and santarina. The dress code is ‘smart casual’ and you are encouraged to wear Red or green (our colour theme for the night).

Our RT is subsidizing half the cost of the dinner for residents and so you only need to pay RM20 per seat (irrespective of age). If you wish to bring along a non-resident for the dinner, the cost is RM40 per person.

Table seating will be done by the committee and tickets will be sent to residents by 18 Dec 11. A table will seat 10 persons. We encourage all to get to know one another during the dinner. However, if you wish to sit with your friends, please combine your numbers in a single reply slip ( complete details in box below ).

Please complete the reply slip below and return by 11 Dec 11, together with your cheque made payable to RT SS2B or cash in a sealed envelope (cheques preferred for control and safety purposes). Breaking News - Assessment Rebates

Important news to all residents: Special incentives to residents- rebates of assessment.

In effort to encourage residents to be aware of protection of our environment, MBPJ has offered 1st 100 household who submit their applications.

In order to qualify for the rebate, kindly download form at MBPJ website ..www.mbpj.gov.my.

Among others,you can apply for rebates if :

- You have solar heater

- You do composting

- At least 70% of lightings in your house utilised LED lightings or energy saving equipment.

- More then 50% of house compound has green vegetation

- there is more then 2 m of greeneries in front or surrounding your house.

- You own and use a hybrid motorcycle/ car.

-You take public transport/walk/ride bysical to work and leisure activities.

To proof , submit pictures or bills.

The above listed are commonly found in most household. There are many more energy saving initiatives that could qualify for rebates. For more details, or explanation, kindly read from the abovesaid website.

Python Number 4 in SS2B? Caught on September 24, 2011

(Sat) 02:40 am - Alerted by security supervisor Mr Motas and security guard Mr Siva about a snake inside my house compound ( House No.10, Jalan 21/3 SEA Park ) after they responded to a passer-by Mr Choong ( driving a white Kancil ) who saw Python crossing the road ( behind guard "pondok" ) at intersection between Jln 21/5 and 21/3 respectively. Meanwhile, Mr Choong had contacted Talian Cop for assistance.

The Crime Scene?

Our "Ranchos"

- With the arrival of Bomba and assisted by the security personnel began immediately searching for the Python which had taken refuse below the broken drain bottom which also connects to rear section of the retaining wall. The Python was moving back and forth.

Note 1 : At one point the Python was moving along the drain towards the house but later retracted into its safe haven.

- Minutes later a first and later a second PDRM police patrol cars arrived to contain the situation, but very few people at that time! Bomba "flushed-out" the Python by applying direct heat into the openings of drain and crevices of the wall, and after some 35 mins managed to retrieved the Python

03:15 am - Bundled the captured Python into a bag and securely tied later caged by Bomba. Everyone was relieved that the ordeal was finally over.

03:20 am - A job well-done by our Bomba assisted by dedicated personnel from M/S Team Guards Security Sdn Bhd and the civic-mindedness of a passer-by which otherwise would cause sleepness nights and fear amongst the residents nearby.

I take this opportunity to thank everyone and kudos to our security guards for their dedication and bravery in discharging their duties for the betterment of a safe and peaceful living environment.

It’s the time of the year again !! The Mid- Autumn Festival !

RT SS2B will be having a simple celebration this year.

We have prepared 100 lanterns to be given away, packed food of Rojak and Fried Kuey-Teow, peanuts and bottled drinks! There will be music and dances for all! Come with your loved ones (both the young and the not so young!) to laugh and make merry in the company of your neighbourhood!

See you on Thursday night ( Friday, being Malaysia Day, is a public holiday ) ! !

Security Scheme
Recap- We started our security scheme in June 2009 due to requests from residents. There were cases of snatch thefts, car break-ins and theft, home invasions, kidnapping and a serious case of a family who were robbed and hurt in front of their own house.

The scheme was implemented with input from many residents. None of us were conversant in operating such a scheme and we stumbled and fell as we learnt along the way. Our belief in our neighbours and our desire to work together to have a safer neighbourhood has resulted in the final successful implementation of the scheme.

We are now closer to one another and we move around our neighbourhood, with much more confidence, sense of belonging and pride. Comparing this to the time we were hesitant to come out for our morning exercise, walk to our nearby shops for fear of being a victim of snatch thieves / robbers, security in our neighbourhood has certainly moved in the right direction.

Maintaining Security.
After the successful implementation of schemes similar to ours, many neighbourhoods have also set up their own security schemes. Security in our area of RT SS2B and its surroundings has certainly improved.

Recent cases
However, we cannot remain complacent and must continue to be vigilant despite the presence of guards in our area. After a long period of peace and quiet, we had a few recent cases of house break-ins. Luckily, no one was hurt.

We take this as a sign that we need to be on our toes again. It is time again to remind ourselves to:

- Keep our gates locked at all times. Please keep it locked even when we are out,

just for a while. It does not pay to trade security with convenience.

- Inform our neighbours / guards when we are away on holiday.

- Watch out for each other and inform the guards if we see any suspicious person or car in our area.

- Leave our porch lights on at night.

- Do not leave newspapers/letters uncollected, a tell-tale sign of unatttended
house.

Safety is our joint responsibility.

Application to MBPJ for approval of our Security scheme
In our last newsletter, we enclosed a letter (green coloured paper) for you to complete and return to us, to signify your approval for our current security scheme. However, only about 40% of residents have responded. Unless we have the written support of the majority ( 75% ) of our residents, our security scheme may be deemed illegal by the authorities and we may be instructed to dismantle our scheme.

We hope to receive approval from MBPJ , so that we can proceed to commit to improvements to our facilities. Upon official approval, we want to install proper boom-gates in place of drums, construct better cabins etc.

We therefore appeal to all those who have yet to return the letter signifying your approval (green coloured), to do so immediately. It would help if you could also ask your neighbours and friends to do likewise.

If you have lost or misplaced the paper, please ask our guards for a copy, or call the security hotline number ( 016-213 1232 ).

Security scheme update
Some of our guards have gone back to their home country and at present we have a number of new guards. They may take time to fit in and be familiar with the needs of our area. We can all do our part again to help them settle in and to point out areas for them to improve in.

We can do a spot check of the sign-in post, at the dark-blue coloured letter boxes. We can continue to motivate the guards to do their best. Get to know their names too.

If you have any idea on improvements, kindly write to us and drop it in the letterbox of No. 57, SS2/43.

"Break-In News".....

There were 2 incidents of burglary in our neighbourhood recently! The first was along SS2/32 which took place at about 1.00pm and the other was along SS2/39 at about 4.00pm - sometimes known as daylight robbery! I have been given to understand that the one along SS2/39 had a bit of 'insider' help but the outsider was caught in the process!

The other piece of 'biting' news was that one resident was bitten by a dog along SS2/39 and needed 4 stitches! This is alarming indeed!

An Ultra Beginners' Class was conducted on July 09, 2011 by RT SS2B at the Sg. Way Community Centre for our Residents eager to learn about how to start up a computer, to discover your 'mouse' and to know about buttons and folders! One small step into information technology!

Sharing Garden Tips and Vermiculture

Our ladies got together on June 14, 2011 to learn gardening tips from a fellow resident along SS2.40. They also learned about vermiculture compost making - making your very own worm farm and converting organic waste into fresh useful compost! They also had a first hand look at many types of air-plants as well as the ecology of a healthy garden! How healthier can that be! Keep it up Ladies!

Computer Class for Novice.... Never Too Late To Learn!

In response to offer made in our last newsletter , 28 courageous residents have signed up for the Computer Class. It is heart-warming to know that our senior citizens have taken one important step to keep in touch with the IT world. Our participants include those in 80+s, 70+s, 60+s and 50+s.

The class will be held at a computer lab located in the Sungai Way Community Centre ( opposite the Wet Market ) on Saturday 9th July, 2011. A bus will pick us at SS2/34 basketball padang at 9.00am.

Participants are reminded to have breakfast before coming to the Basketball padang. The bus will start picking us up at 9.00am. Lesson starts at 10am, finish at 12.00pm.

Bus will take us home from 12.30pm. We provide bottled water and light snacks after class.

Participants are also encouraged to bring your laptop if you have one at home. It will be useful to learn with your own computer so that you feel more familiar and confident to explore on your own after the lesson.

We look forward to have a fun-learning and fruitful morning with all !

Spotted Yesterday and Captured Today!

Yesterday, one of our residents whilst taking an evening walk on the Jalan SS2/41 & Jalan SS2/43 field, spotted a somewhat huge phyton slithering across the walking path and it appeared to be moving towards one of the houses along SS2/41. The Civil Defence Unit was alerted but by the time they arrived the phyton had somehow disappeared from the residents' radar! So, the evening was one of unease! What's another phyton doing in our neighbourhood!

Today, residents readily snapped up sulphur powder to spread in their compound - it seems sulphur can deter snakes in your compound.

But we had plenty of luck this evening. At about 10.00 pm, the phyton was spotted along SS2/43 moving into the drains fronting the bungalows along the road. Residents acted quickly and the Civil Defence and Bomba Units were alerted. We finally captured the phyton! The video below tells the story; my apologies for the poor video quality

Issue No.2/11: - April 2011 - for residents of RT SS2B

Our RT SS2B in collaboration with MBPJ is working on an initiative to make SS2 a ‘Zone Bersih’. The joint project aims to unite all residents and the relevant authorities in continuing efforts to clean up and beautify our area.

We invite all residents to join us this coming Saturday 23rd April 2011 from 8.00am -11am at padang SS2/34, SS2/32 for a ‘Gotong Royong’ project. This event will be graced by Datuk Bandar and other dignitaries.

In addition to cleaning up the area, we will also be planting saplings (young trees) which will eventually replace the old ones. The trees to be planted will be tropical rainforest trees. The saplings have been generously contributed by one of our residents. We plan to plant about 60 trees on Saturday morning.

For those of you with bulky items for disposal, please note that on Saturday, Alam Flora will be making extra trips in the morning to remove bulky items. The normal garbage (including bulky items) and also recyclables are to be placed neatly in front of your house for collection.

Please note that starting from 6.00am in the morning , MBPJ fogging team will be going around our area.

8 a.m. - 11.00am Come to SS2/34,SS2/32 padang and watch the ‘Praise dance’ performance. This will be followed by a ‘Senamrobic’session. Please join us for some early morning warm up before we start ‘gotong royong’ and planting of trees. Breakfast and drinks will also be served. There will also be a demo on using kitchen waste to make compost. A light lunch awaits us when we finish.

How can you help?

1. Just be there at 8 a.m. to support, or take part.

2. Help to plant the saplings. Gloves will be provided. The ground will be dug up and all we need are for ‘hands’ to place the saplings into the designated spot.

So keep this Saturday free and join in this worthy effort to beautify and clean our neighbourhood. Who knows, you may be one of the lucky persons to win one of the 60 bags of fertilizers which will be given out as lucky draws, for those present on Saturday.

Learn To Recycle Kitchen Waste...... on March 26, 2011

THE convenient way to discard used cooking oil is to pour it down the sink, but this will clog up the pipes and drains.

To learn how to recycle the grease, kitchen and garden waste, head to the sixth Organic Day on March 26.

The event, scheduled to be held from 8.30am to 2pm at the park located on Jalan 2/63, is organised by the Centre for Environment, Technology & Development (Cetdem) in collaboration with Slow Food Klang Valley, Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Local Agenda 21 Petaling Jaya, SS2 Selatan Residents Association and Rukun Tetangga SS2B.

Visitors can also pick up tips on detoxification, how to whip up simple, healthy yet tasty meals, make eco-enzymes and learn about slow food concept.

A Python in our Neighbourhood??

A Python was seen crawling under the carriage of a car, parked at SS2/24.Owner was having Tim Sum at the corner shop. The Bomba was called, crowd gathered and the python crawled further in, being surrounded by noise. Driver was asked to drive car to Bomba. The Owner of car only drove car away, only a short distance..to SS2/30.

I went over only after being informed by our guards.By then, a large crowd had gathered again at SS2/30. I assisted by calling Bomba again, and Seapark Police to control crowd. Owner of car called a friend who is familiar in handling snakes.

The 'snake catcher' together with Bomba got the python out. Pictures tell the story.

How did a python of this size get into our area...is anyone's guess!

Writting messages of good wishes and phrases of advice on red rice-papers is one of many Chinese traditions for Chinese New Year, which falls on February 03, 2011.

These are usually hung up in homes and offices to usher in good luck and also to add to the new year atmospere. In keeping with such tradition and to encourage the learning of calligraphy, a street competion was held. This was jointly organised by MBPJ, Beautiful Gate, RTSS 2B and others, the event was held on Sunday afternoon on 23.1.2011 at the market place of SS2. Guest of Honour was the MP for PJU Tony Pua who showed off a bit of his brush strokes too!

The competition was open to students, adults and also the disabled. There were 2 winners and 5 consolation prizes for each category

PETALING JAYA: In a move to get to know the community better, Sea Park police officers went on meet-and-greet in SS2B here this morning.

This is the first project launched by the Petaling Jaya district police to distribute their sector cards, listing the names and telephone numbers of the officers in charge of the area.

The residents responded positively by welcoming the five officers to the area.

Petaling Jaya district police chief, ACP Arjunaidi Mohammed, said: "The sector cards, which are similar to business cards, will make it easier for the public to contact the officers. They will also get to know the officers in charge of their area personally.

"We have to work closely with the public. That's why we need to know them better. If they have information on a crime, they would not hesitate to contact us. Without knowing each other, how can we share information?"

SS2B residents' association deputy chairman Tan Kim Tun said the new approach would go a long way to reduce crime in the area.

"Since last year, there had been a lot of improvement. There are no more snatch thefts or burglaries. We feel safer."

The Wanita of RT SS2B led by Chairperson Mdm. Lee Kwee Cheng, helped to raise funds during the Beautiful Gate Carnival in USJ 19 Mall.
The Carnival was held to raise funds for the building of the 'Hope Factory', a recycling factory which would generate income and provide job apportunities for the physically challenged.
The Wanita sold home-made cookies,muffins, meesiam etc. We also sold ice-cream potong ,Vitagen and fruit juices. These were bought by our RT at attractive prices and sold for a good profit.

Take a 500ml. plastic bottle and cut a few V-shape openings as shown in pictures below:

That's how it will look as above.

Then take a piece of cotton wool and wind it round a string; add more cotton wool to make a bob as shown:

Use rubber band to secure the cotton wool bob.

Then add a few drops of 'Fruit Flies Attractant"

Place the cotton wool bob inside the bottle and secure with the bottle cap.

The finished product: the bottles are now ready to be hung near any fruit trees!

IPOH: Police have arrested two foreigners, who claimed to be college students, after they broke into a house in Taman Panorama, Gunong Rapat, here.

Acting OCPD Supt Ibrahim Abu Bakar said the arrest was made possible by a conscientious neighbour, who called police after hearing the alarm in the victim’s house at 10.30am on Wednesday.

“Policemen rushed to the scene and within 15 minutes caught one of the suspects hiding in a drain while the other was caught in a farm 50m away,” he told reporters here yesterday.

The duo, believed to have broken into the house though a sliding side door, must have been caught by surprise by the speedy arrival of the police, he added.

Police seized a car that the suspects had rented in Kuala Lumpur and recovered house-breaking tools, including a crowbar and a spanner, from the backpack of one of the suspects.

Caught in the act: Acting Ipoh OCPD Supt Ibrahim Abu Bakar, together with his officers, showing the crowbar which was recovered from two foreigners who claimed to be college students.

Also recovered were three watches, jewellery, a handphone and a small amount of cash.

Investigations showed that the suspects, aged 30 and 34, had registered themselves to study English at a college in Kuala Lumpur.

They had earlier rented the c ar and were said to have gone touring Penang before coming here.

“We believe they had other plans when visiting Penang from the tools they were carrying. We are checking with the Immigration Department to determine their country of origin,” he said.

This was a 'success' story by the Ipoh Police as reported in today's Star papers. Residents are now advised to be aware of 'college students' who may be moving about in our neighbourhood with criminal intent! So please be alert at all times!

House Break-In on September 15, 2010

I thought I was going to have a quiet Malaysia Day today, but my plans went haywire! Especially after discovering that my house was broken into yesterday when I returned home in the afternoon around 4 pm. The picture above shows how they made their into the house. And what a big big mess they left behind, not to mention the 'things' they took away!

Based on latest information obtained from my neighbours, I believe the burglars broke in just as soon as I left for office at around 10.30am and as a matter of 'eye witness', someone saw 2 guys jumping off the wall into a get-away car waiting along the side road of my house! This was around 11.30 am. The guys were described as 'fair looking young guys with beard and wearing baseball caps and having backpacks too! The term used was 'middle eastern' guys! Alas, there was no immediate call to Police as a reaction to what the person saw! How unfortunate!

Nevertheless, the Police however responded speedily to my call yesterday when I discovered the break-in! RT SS2B members and neighbours also came by to offer help if needed. I thank them all for their wonderful show of good neighbourliness! So we will now spend the holiday and weekend clearing up 'collateral damage'! Cheers and Happy Malaysia Day!

PETALING JAYA: Police want to promote closer relations among the races by organising joint crime prevention patrols in housing estates during the festive holidays.

Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the police and the public would patrol neighbourhoods together, either on foot or by vehicle, throughout the state during the Hari Raya holidays.

“We want to promote the idea that when one community goes back to their kampung to celebrate their festival, the other races from the same area can go around the neighbourhood on anti-crime patrols with us.

“We’ll also look out for vacant homes that may be prone to break-ins during long holiday periods.

“The patrols will start two days before the Hari Raya holidays and will end when most of the residents return,” he said when launching the “Balik Kampung – Rumah Selamat” campaign at the One Utama shopping centre here yesterday.

He added that the patrols would be mostly conducted at night.

DCP Khalid said the method was tried out in Seri Kembangan during the Chinese New Year holidays early this year and had yielded “excellent results”.

“When we carried out this programme for one week in Seri Kembangan, the crime rate was zero,” he said.

DCP Khalid said besides Seri Kembangan, the police had approached residents’ associations in Puchong and Damansara to conduct the new round of crime prevention patrols.

He said there would be more such meetings with other residents’ associations.

SECURITY yet again topped the list of issues concerning Petaling Jaya residents.

About 100 representatives from residents associations and Rukun Tetangga (RT) were invited to witness Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s walkabout in the SS2 commercial area in Petaling Jaya.

Also present at the walkabout which started at the Sea Park police station were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, Selangor police commissioner Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

Several residents’ representatives talked to the ministers after they ended their walkabout at the Pelita Nasi Kandar restaurant.

SS2B Rukun Tetangga chairman Lee Kwee Cheng and deputy chairman Willie Tan managed to have a 10-minute chat and brought up security issues in their neighbourhood.
Lee said they had been working closely with the police in keeping their area safe and hoped for the good working relationship to continue.

“We also told the Prime Minister that we currently have a guarded scheme in SS2B but we hope that the government can improve on the security so that we don’t have to hire our own guards any more,” said Lee.

He said they also asked Hishamuddin if it was possible to increase police presence in the housing areas.

Tan said they also talked to Koh about increasing the RT’s monthly allocation of RM400.

“RTs are put in charge of instilling harmony within a community and we need the funds to organise functions and events,” said Tan.
Petaling Utama Damai Senja Flats chairman K. Sathiveloo, who managed to sit on the same table as the ministers, said he also raised the issue about crime in his area.

“There are many cases of snatch thefts in our area.

“We have been working closely with the police and we are hoping for a shorter response time from the police,” he said.

To celebrate our 'sustainability', and in recognition of services by 'absolute' volunteer residents, a get-together will be held on May 22, 2010 at the Field along SS2/32. We want ro renew and refresh bonding amongst residents and at the same time hope to have 'new' residents joining the SRS Scheme.

THOSE days, the people living around the SS2B area in Petaling Jaya may have known their immediate neighbours only.

However, things took a turn eight years ago when residents from SS2/41 and SS2/43 whose houses were situated near a large field came together to help plant grass on it.

“The field was uneven and not taken care of for many years until residents from these two roads decided to fix the problem themselves,” said SS2B RT chairman Lee Kwee Cheng during the neighbourhood’s get-together party held recently.

Lee said the residents then decided to form a Rukun Tetangga but one of the requirements was to get more residents involved in it, not just from those living along the two roads.

Hence, the group went around and got their act together by hosting several activities to get those who they did not know to take part.

Lee said the idea was a successful one indeed and the RT was formally registered in 2004 with a total of 476 houses under its wing.

“Today, the residents know one another. We have line dance groups, tai-chi groups, even teh-tarik and golfing friends.

“Some of us also take turns in sending and picking our children up from school and cooking lunch for our children, too,” said Lee, who thanked the residents for taking part in the activities hosted as well as their initiative in getting to know one another better, making the neighbourhood a modern day city neighbourhood.

The RT also has an ongoing Voluntary Patrolling Scheme where some 50 registered residents would take turns to patrol their neighbourhood in the night.

Delicious fare: Besides having catered food, some of the residents also took time to prepare simple home cooked desserts

For the annual party held at the SS2/41 field last weekend, residents worked together to come up with a list of games, singing contests and dance routines for the night.

Residents who had taken extra effort in beautifying their gardens were also rewarded with a bag of goodies and a certificate each.

It was certainly an evening of fun, food & fellowship and the rain which fell just before our function was no dampener! Residents and guests turned out in numbers. Your RT Committee certainly 'over-delivered' on the food and the activities for the evening. The evening's highlight -the karaoke 'competition'- saw endless requests to entertain the crowd with their 'chosen' songs and I am sure the judges had a hard time deciding on the results.
Performances by young students from the nearby Puay Chai School captivated the crowd. And the "Praise Dancers" showed one of many ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle; Young resident Ahmad Riyal demonstrated his versatility of "beat box percussion' with his vocals! Willie's children also showed their talents aplenty! And of course Angie and her "Evergreen" Line Dancers revved up the evening with a medley of dances!
The "Best Kept Garden" Awards were also presented to residents for their 'perseverance', to put it mildly!
Also many thanks to the many many residents who helped to prepare & set up the venue, to decorate the place and all the "house keeping" duties essential for a great evening!
Our thanks also go out to many of our "SRS" members, the Police, Represenatives of Dr. Cheah (our State Assemblyman who is still recuperating from his injuries), our 'VIPs" from JPNIN, our guests from neighbouring RAs/RTs, and last but not least our own Chairperson, Mdm. Lee Kwee Cheng and her Committee Members for a very successful evening! Syabas!

SS2 Chinese New Year Carnival Begins!

Our RT SS2B led by our new Chairperson Mdm Lee Kwee Cheng, Deputy Chairman Willie Tan and fellow Committee members as well as SS2B residents were at the SS2 Sunday morning market to lend support to this year's Chinese New Year Carnival, officially launched by ADUN Dr. Cheah and his staff. On hand to welcome the new year of the tiger were 5 lion dance teams and mandarin oranges aplenty! As usual, the morning crowd surged forward when Dr. Cheah's team handed out recycling bags to the morning shoppers! Well done to Mr. Lee Lih Shyan of MBPJ Local Agenda 21 Programme for promoting the recycling campaign and for also successfully organising the launch.

Fireworks on New Year's Eve!

For those who live in our neighbourhood, they will know that the 'ka-booms' that could be heard last night did not come from fireworls in SS2! It was the real blasts at the KLCC Park! What a take-off for 2010!

Welcome New 'Binary' Day of New Year - 01.01.10

By this time tomorrow, you will have greeted a new binary day in the new year 2010; perhaps for some you will still be asleep after 'auld lang syne' parties this evening! But my guess is that the new year will see more new digital products in this technology decade!
Our RT will have a new Chairperson in Mdm. Lee Kwee Cheng; so let us all resolve to continue to support neighbourhood activities; let us be happy, healthy and safe together! Cheers to all and best wishes for the new year!

What A Rainy Spell!

As the saying goes, into each life there's almost always some rain; but for some line dancers in our neighbourhood, rainfall invariably occurs every Tuesdays & Fridays! Which means the open air classes in the evenings are cancelled and we have to either find alternative forms of exercises, or eat less during these festive times! Nevertheless we look forward to the new year with renewed energy!

One Malaysia Charity Line Dance on 26-11-09

The 7th Unity X'mas Line Dance Party witnessed almost 400 ladies (and a sprinkling of some guys) fun-stomping away to an early celebration of year end festivities! Event Organiser, the PJU Line Dance Council, with co-organizers Wanita MCA Selangor, Persatuan Kemajuan Wanita Petaling Jaya and our very own RT SS2B, managed this year's event, with the theme -One Malaysia Charity! And the beneficiary designated was the Pacific Rim Disaster Fund.

Towards a Safe & Clean Neighbourhood!

At the MBPJ Awards Night on October 30, 2009, our Dato' Menteri Besar Selangor, amongst other things, highlighted two main issues which he would like to see in Petaling Jaya - he wants a safe city and he wants a clean city too!
And this is where every neighbourhood in Petaling Jaya can play a role in striving to achieve these 2 goals! MBPJ has announced the formation of a 'special squad' to assist the Police towards making PJ a safe city; residents have likewise been doing so via various means like putting up gated & guarded communities and skim rondaan sukarela (SRS) or voluntary patrol by residents. One other 'software' is to get to know each other in a neighbourhood and be the 'CCTV' to crimes and report them directly to the Police.
A clean city has to start with each individual neighbourhood taking steps to educate residents on the need to not just keep their own front yard clean but also that of the neighbourhood. There are residents who like to gather all their rubbish and drop them off at their neighbour's house! This 'rubbish thy neighbour' habit has to stop!
And yes - we must also stop the act of 'vandallising thy neighbourhood' - be it Government or private properties! The total disregard for Government & private properties by sticking all sorts of notices on them cannot be condoned; even road signages have been plastered all over! We certainly need the will of all stakeholders in a neighbourhood to put an end to this menace!

Best Neighbourhood Awards Night on 30-10-09

The 2008/2009 Award went to Damansara Jaya Residents' & Owners' Association (DJROA) last night at the MBPJ Civic Centre! Congratulations to them for coming out ahead of 24 other competing neighbourhoods! I believe they also won the Award years ago when the competition first started!
Our RT was not even placed which means we still have some way to go! Let us not be discouraged but we need to get more residents (both young & old) to be active in our own neighbourhood programmes. We need fresh resources and inputs!

Its Unity X'mas Line Dance Party Time on 26-11-09

The 7th Unity X'mas Line Dance Party this year is being organized by the PJU Line Dance Council as Event Organizer, and co-organized by Wanita MCA Selangor, Persatuan Kemajuan Wanita Petaling Jaya and our Rukun Tetangga SS2B!
The central theme this year is 'One Malaysia Charity' and a designated cause will be the main beneficiary of the proceeds.

The venue is Dewan D'Kelana, Kompleks Sukan Kelana Jaya and the event will run from
6.00 pm - 11.30pm. Admission by tickets is RM 16 per person, with dinner of course! Please contact your dance teachers for tickets; alternatively you may contact your fellow resident HK Tan at 012-6933717 for assistance. Happy dancing as always!

Green Building Tax Incentives for Houses?

Whilst we have just heard about the Government's recent budget incentives to encourage 'green buildings', one wonders whether the individual tax payer who also converts his home into a 'green home' will get similar tax incentives? Our MBPJ ( please read blog by Mr. Lee Lih Shyan) has been a prime mover in this area and perhaps the Government's aims to promote a green environment should start with providing tax incentives for the individual - its the cumulative effort of each part that makes the total sum of achieving a green environment a success!

Mid-Autumn Festival By DAP on 4-10-09

Our ADUN Dr. Cheah and all his DAP team members organised a great evening party on Sunday, 04-10-09 at the basketball court along SS2/34 & SS2/32. Our fellow residents were fotunate that the party was held in the midst of our neighbourhood, and there were plenty of activities both for children and adults too! Food was of course on the table for one and all! And did you see a dragon followed by children with lighted lanterns? What an evening of fun and fellowship! Cheers!

Breaking News! Again??

Lest some of us may think that our blog has been abandoned due to a lack of news (whether good or not so good), we are actually breaking the silence to say that your neighbourhood blog is not in dreamland yet! And what better news to break the lull other than to report that as of yesterday that were two break-ins in our area!! Well, we had 'relative' peace of mind with respect to security for about 4 months after security guards were engaged and now this! Still need to be on guard lah! Back to square one??
