RTSS2B's Family Day Carnival on Nov. 03, 2012

PETALING JAYA: A morning exercise session was organised by the SS2B Rukun Tetangga (RT) to strengthen ties between neighbours and the police on Nov 3.
SS2B Rukun Tetangga chairperson Willie Tan (front row, third from left) and Sea Park police station chief Inspector Gunam Resul Gulam Mohammad (front row, fourth from left) with residents and police officers exercising to “Gangnam Style” at the SS2/34 basketball court during a morning exercise organized by the residents on Nov 3.

“We get together to know each other, foster goodwill and help each other curb crime,” said SS2B RT chairperson Willie Tan at the SS2/34 basketball court.

He said by keeping in close contact with residents, the RT committee and police could find out about incidence of crime and take action to curb it.

He added that the RT had so far organised family days, carnivals and sports days every two to three months.

Also at the event was Sea Park police station chief Inspector Gunam Resul Gulam Mohammad, who had a dialogue with some 200 residents.

Gunam Resul, who brought along about 15 police officers to participate in games with the residents, said constant communication is the key to a safer neighbourhood.

“When we know each other, everything becomes easy. We like joining community programme so that there’s no gap (between residents and the police),” he said.

He added that while crime can happen at any time, it is important for police officers to be friendly with the public.

Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor Tony Cheong Siew Thong said this RT is the most active in the vicinity with about six programmes so far this year.

Apart from group exercises to “Gangnam Style”, balloon bursting games and lucky draws, residents also had free blood and glucose tests.

On 16th April 2012, the "Golden Sunshine" girls of SS2B got together for their annual lunch. The oldest among us is 86 and the youngest and newest addition is none other then yours truly.
It is indeed not easy to wake up so early( 5.30am ). However, looking at the happy healthy faces of our golden girls, there is motivation to join in the healthy practices. Start early and you will maintain your youth and agility. Hopefully when i am of their age, i shall be as healthy!
