Fire Crackers & Car Break-ins!

Early Friday morning, our neighbourhood witnessed 3 'car-smashing windows break-ins' almost akin to the sound of fire crackers during this festive season. So its best that as the week-end approaches, residents will need to have sharp ears and eyes too in case the 'car window smashers return'. Be alert and be extra careful during these times and also as a global recession looms! Dial SEAPARK POLICE at 03-78751382 in case of need!

Week-end before the Ox

Have an 'ox-full' year of good health and happiness too! The week before the Chinese new year has been one of shoppping and cleaning and shopping and cleaning! Phew! And the hot humid days have not been helpful either! And the intermittent rainfalls in the evenings, especially Tuesdays and Fridays, have been setbacks for our line dance classes. As some may say -'into each life some rain must fall, and it has to be Tuesdays & Fridays!' - but that's life! I am sure that after one week of eating next week (New Year week), line dancing will be back in force! Till then, gong xi fa cai to all!

Wish List for SS2/41 Field

Not four score and twenty years ago, I wrote about residents having a wish list for our SS2b neighbourhood now that we do have some funds for development and invited ideas and suggestions to be forwarded to your hard working Rukun Tetangga SS2B. Do use the holiday season to put forward your views on anything that comes to mind!

One item I would like to see on the SS2/41 field is the addition of park benches around the badminton courts so that we can rest our legs after a session of badminton, tai-chi or line dancing! Also of course we need new and better poles for the badminton courts. Let's have more ideas please and Happy 'Niu' Year to all!

President Obama Speaks

In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted — for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things — some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

Your Wish List For SS2B in 2009

The Chinese New Year of the Ox is just days away! How time flies indeed! Whilst you are all busy planning your family re-union and shopping and shopping everyday (and causing massive traffic jams within SS2 itself), please try and give some thoughts to projects which can enhance our neighbourhood. I believe your RT Committee will welcome liveable and workable ideas and look forward to hearing from all residents soonest possible.

Food For Thought - by Mr. Lee Lih Shyan, MBPJ

Catch 22@PJ: Gated Storage Space

Gated storage space? It happened in my own neighbourhood. A gate was put up at the entrance of the back lane as a deterrent to the deteriorating safety situation in SS25 but turn out to be the storage for a rojak seller. The hawker store his tables and chairs, umbrella, bins and even a refrigerator there for safe keeping. Is this considered an abuse of usage for public space or an intelligent way for optimising the resources? While the gate was put up to prevent stringers to loiter in the neighbourhood, it is not meant for keeping private goods in the public area. We are in the Catch 22 situation now that it is a common scene in PJ seeing many residents and premise owners encroaches onto the public space. It is common to see the piling of construction material on the road shoulders, the placing of gas cylinders, rubbish bin and stalls on top of the drain, the pre-booking of parking lot with the tyres, signboard and bins on the road.
What should we do? Perhaps to educate people that encroachment onto public space is equivalent to raping the green area and vandalising the public properties, and it is a punishable offence. Shame based approach could be applied so that people's conscious is clear. Until this concept is implanted into everyone mentality and value, these kind of "offences" will continue and having a tidy and beautiful city scape may not be possible in the near future.

Rukun Tetangga SS2B is the BEST in Petaling Jaya

SS2B Rukun Tetangga is the best
By TAN KARR WEI
THREE neighbourhoods in Petaling Jaya Utara made a clean sweep in the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Best Neighbourhood Contest for 2007/2008.
The SS2B Rukun Tetangga (RT) came in top in the annual competition, bagging a RM50,000 development fund and a trophy.
Talented: Beautiful Gate Disabled Centre members performing during the Petaling Jaya Best Neighbourhood contest award ceremony.
The Kampung Cempaka RT came in second while the Taman Megah Residents Association (RA) was third, winning RM40,000 and RM30,000 respectively.
In his speech, PJ mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said the objective of the competition was to encourage community organisations to strengthen ties among residents and to work on activities that would improve the environment, increase economic development and reduce social problems.
Three other neighbourhoods which won the merit award of RM5,000 each were Taman Dato’ Harun PKNS Flats RT, Taman Mayang Jaya RA and Section 21 Sea Park RA.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim presented the awards to the winners.
Khalid advised the other local authorities in the state to organise such programmes to encourage the participation of residents in promoting sustainable development in their respective districts.
Three individuals were also honoured in the Best Local Leader competition. They are Indah Jaya RT chairman Osman Jamil, SS2B RT chairman Ngiam Chong Choy and SS5 Kelana Jaya RT chairman Sanggat Singh.
Ngiam and Taman Megah RA chairman Ong Thiam Hiong said they would channel the development funds towards better security in their neighbourhood, while Kampung Cempaka RT chairman Lee Meng Chong said he would use the funds for the welfare of residents.
Ngiam attributed the success of his neighbourhood to the pool of residents with special talents like lawyers and retired army personnel who were willing to contribute to the RT.

Towards a Barrier Free Petaling Jaya

Delegates from Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam & Myanmar led by the Japanese Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FASID) visted MBPJ on January 14, 2009 and were briefed by Mr. Lee Lih Shyan of MBPJ, Ms Sia Siew Chin of Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled, and our RT SS2B on how Petaling Jaya has been and is being developed as a City which is barrier-free for persons with disabilities. It was indeed an eye-opening day for all visiting delegates and I believe everybody had a good time too!

Neighbourhood Watch

A chance sighting of 3 'up-to-no-good' guys on the roof top of a detached house along SS2/43 prompted residents to immediately call the Police who arrived in quick time. One was apprehended while the other two scooted off in double quick time. This was about 2.00 pm on a quiet Sunday, January 11, 2009. The Police also seized the 2 motor cycles left behind by the men. Residents are advised to promptly report to the Police when they come across suspicious characters cruising 'aimlessly' on their motor cycles. In the incident today, we thank our residents and the Police for their timely intervention! Syabas!
